"Raising the Bar" By Dave Faries
More than olives and beer nuts, Vickery Park takes pub grub to the next level ... click to read the article/review >
Weather-beaten wood and a welcoming patio up front create a friendly vibe at this casual restaurant-bar on Henderson. Owners and staff are Deep Ellum refugees, including ex-Green Room chef Eric Najera. Menu veers from bar staples like hamburgers and fries (hand-cut and skin-on) to upscale items such as steamed mussels in a citrusy broth, and roast chicken with mashed potatoes. VP stays open until 2am nightly; after 11pm, the menu shifts to soft tacos. --Teresa Gubbins

When the Barley House, a Knox-Henderson stalwart, packed up and headed north to Yale Boulevard, it left a void in the area's casual, neighborhood pub scene. Stepping up to the plate in an effort to draw a similar crowd is Vickery Park. Just a stone's throw farther east, this rickety, beer-first offering has all the ingredients to win over the hearts and minds of the displaced Barley-ites. A winding, horseshoe bar provides plenty of space to belly up and order one of the bar's unique imports.
Patrons also take to the small patio as the Henderson traffic whizzes by only a few yards away. A small menu offers salads, sandwiches and a handful of other items. If you're serious about saving Henderson from the seemingly unstoppable invasion of upscale restaurants, clubs and boutiques, Vickery Park is the place where you should consider dropping some hard-earned dough. -- Jeff Speicher
Tavern in the trendy North Henderson neighborhood offers a warm, conversation-conducive atmosphere and serves food til 11 p.m.

We were waiting for another cozy pub to call home. Patio seating overlooks Henderson's well-heeled crowd. Sip a beer and be glad that you are wearing flip-flops. The big screen shows the game, alternative-types lounge in the cushy couches in the back.
At first glance, you might think that this is your standard bar/restaurant. At a closer look, though, you're likely to find that this place steps it up a notch, all the while hiding under its first impression. Buffalo Fried Calamari, Kahlúa Brisket Sandwich, Citrus Creme Mussles, and a killer House Salad all top off the menu along with quite an extensive beer list.
Try the patio if the lighting is too dim, or plant yourself at the classic horseshoe bar and get friendly with the locals.
Reason to Go: This is the new kid on the Henderson block. Vickery Park sports a large patio facing Henderson and their menu is small, but robust. In fact, they have a dish consisting of mussels in a white wine sauce which is absolutely amazing!!!
